Phew!!! School break is finally here after weeks of projects and mid-semester tests. Thank God there were only 2 papers for mid-semester test and 2 more after the break. But that can wait. Haha.

Since this semester started, there have been a series of super nice movies that I want to watch all but could not. However, I did catch 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'Shrek 3' recently. Both were quite good shows so no regrets. And GSS is on which mean I have been on retail therapy though now together with movies and good food, I am broke. But what's new? Haha :P

Besides school, I attended two conferences, "i-Hope" and "Habituat Leadership" in the past 2 weeks. The speaker for "i-Hope" was Sy Rogers and he was a really inspiring and humorous speaker. Just a bit of background about him, he was once a homosexual (yes...you did not hear me wrong) who become a normal guy who is married and has a daughter. Although the way he speaks, his voice and his actions still reveals his past, his testimony was an encouragement to all and it was an eye-opener to certain things that you will never actually think about especially questions regarding to homosexually. And for "Habitudes Leadership", it was on leadership such as the analogy of the iceberg and starving baker. There were sharings from Pastor Glenn (I think), Daphne Khoo (Singapore Idol participant), Elim Chew (Founder of 77th Street) and a cancer patient.

Recently, I have also watched this video on a guy called Nick Vujicic twice and his testimony is encouraging, brings new things to light and reminds me of things that I have taken granted for. Now you must be wondering what's so special about this guy? Well...he was borned without limbs, meaning no hands and legs. Can you imagine how life is like without limbs? If I was him, I would have taken my life already. But this guy is different. He has completed a Bachelor of Commerce, an international motivational speaker and has his own house. The videos on his website tell it all so do check it out: http://lifewithoutlimbs.org/media.php.

As for today, I decided not to go to Sentosa with the crusaders as I was tired and no mood to play volleyball. Instead, it was a rest day for me to just relax and slack. However, some interesting thoughts came into my mind which I like to share here. They were basically on leadership.

- There is a fine line between respect and trust. The context used here is the respect for leaders and not for others. I may trust the leader to lead and guide the team, meaning I will listen and obey, but that does not necessary mean I have the respect for the leader. In my opinion, respect may attritude to one's own personal gain. A person may gain respect because of his/her position and power. But if that leadership position is taken away, will he/she have the respect from others? I believe that trust is the most important value in a team for things to work. As for respect, it is achieved through time but should not be the main concern of the leader.

What if the following questions were posted to me in regards to my NMS team:
a) Who is/are the most dispensable in the team?
- My answer will be me. I believe that even without the chairperson, this event will still carry on and things will still be done. Event is after all business. The team consists of members who are efficient, responsible and resourceful enough to ensure that every last details are being covered. Besides, there is still the vice-chairperson.

- Another person will be whoever has been contributing the least and not doing his/her part for the event. Following of the ground rules is taken into consideration as well. I don't like free-riders and I believe hard work should be rewared. There should be fairness in everything we do.

b) Who is/are the most indispensable in the team?
- My answer will be everyone. Everyone's effort and hard work play a part in making the event successful. And besides, it is thanks to the members that things get done. Without them, nothing would have been accomplished. But if I was required to target a specific group, I will say the committee heads. They are the driving force in their committee, information providers and task allocators. Although without the members, it will mean more work for them.

So before I end, I will like to thank all my team members for all the effort and hard work you have put into this event. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Without you, things would not have gotten this far. :)
